December, 2010:

Illuminations finally taking shape!

The halos destined for four DTES parks had their finishing touches tonight. They are the culmination of eight community workshops and hours of work by a number of local artists.

The halos will be shining all winter long. Please join us on Thursday December 16th at 5pm for the Illuminations Parade and Celebration. Meet at Victory Square.

The DTES Illuminations are a project of Still Moon Arts Society and the Community Arts Council of Vancouver.

North Ravine Garden gets a new 3000 pound friend.

At last, the finishing touches on the North Ravine Garden – Neighbourhood Matching Fund – project are underway. On December 12th a 2800 pound boulder was moved to its final resting place, beside the native plant garden which has been built by the community over the last several years. The boulder will be affixed with a sign commemorating the teachers, the students and the community members who contributed to the construction of the garden. All told, the sign has almost 200 individual names.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this project. There is always more work to be done and the ravine can always use more stewardship so stay tuned for future opportunities to become involved with your local ravine!
