Still Moon Arts Society has started the new year off by keeping busy! This includes our continued collaboration between youth, artists, and ecologists in our Reflecting Still Creek initiative, getting ready for the upcoming monthly ravine clean-up, and spreading the word about the Twilight Crow Bike Ride happening in early February. As well, we are excited to start up regular Coffee House Music Nights on Thursdays and “Artsicle” dinner and art show nights on Tuesdays. Last but certainly not least, we’ve also announced this year’s dates for our peformance intensive summer day camp. Check out all the details below!

1. Reflecting Still Creek Update

— Still Moon Arts Society’s art and environmental stewardship project.

Artists Carmen Rosen and Jolene Anderson will be working with Grade 10 Social Studies classes from Windermere Secondary to create temporary art in the ravine using natural materials, with the help of Shannon Leddy. The work will be documented with photographs so that the images may be permanently mounted on boulders along the east path of the ravine. Additionally, ecologist Herb Hammond will be working with Ecology 9 students to do some mapping, brochure planning, and water testing for the ravine.

2. Event: Monthly Ravine Clean-up

— Help us preserve the beauty of the ravine on January 27th, at 10:00 AM!

We will be meeting at the ravine by 27th Avenue to do some regular cleaning of the area, as well as water testing and planting of native plant species with Dana McDonald from Evergreen. At noon there will be tea and treats in the Art House in the field at Slocan Park for those who wish to warm up and relax after the clean-up, as well!

3. Event: Twilight Crow Bike Ride

— Follow the crows with us on a gorgeous sunset bike ride!

Join Red Sara and Still Moon Arts on a ride to see where the crows roost on the banks of Still Creek, in Burnaby. Meet us at Lakewood Drive at the Central Valley Greenway at 4:00 PM. For a shorter riding route, cyclists are welcome to meet at 4:15 PM at Renfrew Skytrain Station, as well. If the weather does not allow for a safe ride, then the event will be rescheduled for the following Saturday, February 9th.

4. Music Nights & Artsicle Nights

— Join us for a few relaxing nights of music, art, and company from around the community!

Thursday Coffee House Music Nights at Slocan Park are happening 3 Thursdays a month, from 7 – 10 PM. Opening Night, on Feb 7th, will feature Moon Fest Band Members led by Brad Muirhead and other local musicians. Come and enjoy an evening of music, conversation, tea, coffee, treats and get to know all your creative neighbours. Please note that on Feb 14th there will be no coffee house.
The 4th Tuesday of the month will be Artsicle nights, a visual arts show and tell and potluck dinner. The first Artsicle will be on Feb 28th.

If you are part of a group that wants to perform on a Thursday Music Night, please contact Brad Muirhead (crassbrutes@telus.net) and he will work to find a date and time when you can perform a whole set, just a song, a poem, a short story, or whatever else your creative medium may be.
