August, 2013:

The Return of the Salmon

As most may know by now, the theme for this year’s 11th Annual Moon Festival is the Return of the Salmon, to celebrate the fact that this past year, Chum salmon returned to spawn in Vancouver’s Still Creek for the first time in perhaps over 80 years. As just one of many organizations who have dedicated their time (years, in our case) to slowly but surely nursing the polluted creek and ravine back to health, we can’t help but feel thrilled and proud of the results.

Below is a wonderful video on the return of the salmon, in which Still Moon’s very own artistic director Carmen Rosen makes a small appearance, as well! One of the people responsible for the video is Mark Angelo, whose hard work around conserving rivers has been recognized widely across the country and around the world. Please watch and share!

Collingwood Park Potluck 2013

As part of our Reflecting Still Creek project, Still Moon was delighted to attend the 6th annual Collingwood Park Potluck. We were more than happy to enjoy a scrumptious selection of dishes from the community, while hosting a booth along where the creek once flowed. It was especially exciting when we spotted a fish looking for the lost stream, who then decided to join us for the party. It was definitely a wonderful way to spend the evening, and we were glad we could make it!
