Historical Walking Tour of Still Creek Watershed

we are partnering with The city of Burnaby for this exciting event!

Please register in advance for this tour by contacting the Burnaby Planning Department at 604-294-7530

Sunday, June 1, 9am to 1pm, Departing at 9am from the Patterson SkyTrain station, one stop west of Metrotown.  Meet the tour guides at street level of this station.  Street parking may be limited at Patterson SkyTrain station.  If using a car, parking at Metrotown may be the best option.

What to bring: weather appropriate clothing and footwear, water if you get thirsty, and snacks.  Part of the tour will follow a path next to the stream, which may be muddy, depending on recent weather.  We will walk by stores, Starbucks, etc. and we can stop for snacks if needed.

Do I ned to pay for transit?  No! Cost of transit once on the tour will be covered for participants.

Join the Still Moon Arts Society and the City of Burnaby on a historic tour of Still Creek watershed by SkyTrain, bus and on foot.  The tour will depart from Patterson SkyTrain Station at 9am.  This area is the headwaters of Still Creek watershed.  Stop #1 will be in the Upper Watershed at Joyce Collingwood SkyTrain station for a brief tour of the neighbourhood, which was once a wetland / beaver dam complex.  Stop #2 will be at 29th Avenue SkyTrain Station to walk northward along (and within) Renfrew Ravine to Grandview Highway / Renfrew SkyTrain Station.  Stop #3 will be at Gilmore SkyTrain Station to walk a portion of the Lower Watershed where Still Creek flows next to recent redevelopments and the Central Valley Greenway.  The tour will end where the Central Valley Greenway meets Willingdon Avenue at about 12:20pm.  From there, regular bus service will take people back to Metrotown and Patterson SkyTrain Station or to Brentwood SkyTrain Station so that folks can get home for 1pm.

Tour participants will learn about the historical, ecological context of the different parts of Still Creek watershed.  A key narrative will be how the health of the watershed has improved to the point where salmon have recently returned to spawn in Still Creek.
