Youth Interns 2010

Youth Intern Pilot Project – Still Moon Arts
In November 2009 Still Moon hosted a youth brainstorming pizza evening to find out what our local youth who have been volunteering for Still Moon would like to see Still Moon do to be more relevant for youth. Their big recommendation was that we develop intern positions! They believed youth were ready to go much deeper and really involved beyond helping out for a day or two at festivals.

Afterwards two youth developed job descriptions with Carmen that resulted in the two positions

Still Moon Ravine Steward intern

Still Moon Communications and Outreach intern

Purpose: Internships for youth to get deeply involved and take leadership in specific areas
Develop curriculum to train interns

In the new year we used those descriptions to apply to the federal summer student employment program and were supported to hire two students

Kevin Chan was our Communications summer student and spent the summer creating information brochures and study guides for Still Moon, getting the word out about our summer events, writing articles for the blog and the local paper as well as developing many organizational tools to make Still Moon run more effectively.

Crecien Bencio was our Ravine Steward intern. He has spent time weeding and watering at the ravine and assisting Kevin doing a ravine activity session with a local day camp. Since Crecien has much artistic ability he also led several balloon lantern workshops at local parks, created jellyfish lanterns for the moon festival, and assisted at the Performance Intensive day camp.

Thank you Kevin and Crecien for a great summer!
