Birds! Birds! Birds!

Still Moon is partnering up with Vancouver Bird Week and other organizations and individuals to celebrate Vancouver Bird Week May 6th-13th! Check out our workshops below, as well as other great events around the city here.

Words for Birds

Learn about Vancouver City Birds! Join us for an exciting workshop with community artists Cathy Stubington and Carmen Rosen and Fresh Local Poets, Jami Macarty and Kevin Spenst.

Write poetry, make puppets, explore movement and sound.  Bird Blurbs, bird quizzes, bird poems on sticks. Pick a bird to learn about, find out what their beaks do, where do they like to live? Explore their movements and learn their songs. A multitude of activities to choose from, or try them all. At the end of the workshop we’ll flock together to make a little parade, led by one of the candidates for Vancouver City Bird… which one will it be? To be announced at the Bird Week Celebration at Creekside Community Centre May 13th!

Crow Curiosity Bike Ride

Join us for a short, meandering ride on to investigate and learn about crows. We will be checking out their territories, visiting the roost, and begin to understand what the birds are actually saying. There are over 20,000 crows living in Vancouver, Burnaby and surrounding cities that are thriving in the urban habitats we have created and this will be a great opportunity to explore their wise ways of living.

This ride is co-presented for Vancouver Bird Week by Still Moon Arts Society and HUB, and will be hosted by RedSara. If you have binoculars bring them along, but not necessary.

Max 20 people. Please register here, and if you register please come so that you don’t take a spot from someone who wants to be there.

May 8, 7:00 -9:00PM
Begin: Slocan Park Field House in Vancouver
End: Crow Roost (near Gilmore Skytrain) in Burnaby

Birds, bikes, the feeling of flying through the air: what a wonderful world! See you there. Questions? Contact Sara: redsara@gmail.com

RedSara has been leading the Crow Roost Twilight Bike Ride in Vancouver and Burnaby for 5 years. She has studied and is tuned in to the mysteries of bird “language” and is a former Lead Instructor with Soaring Eagle Nature School. She’ll be joined here by HUB Burnaby Committee ride support.
